IOOC MARKET NEWSLETTER No 127 – May 2018

The information newsletter by the International Olive Council (IOC) published 5 June 2018, refers to Argentina and the work done by the members of the Council which will be presented on 18-21 June 2018. In a wide area of Argentina different varieties of olive trees are cultivated namely, “Arbequina”, “Picual”, “Frantoio”, “Hojiblanca” as well as the internationally known variety “Arauco”. For 2017-2018 production in Argentina reached a historical high of 43.000 tones. Consumption is stable at 6.000 tones and exports are expected to surpass 36.000 tones. An increased performance of 116% in comparison to the previous year.In addition, a decrease in the price of extra virgin olive oil is noted at the end of May 2018. The effected countries are: Spain with €2,61/kg (-34%), Italy with €4,03/kg (-32%), Greece €2,50/kg (-31%) and Tunisia €3,43 (-19%).
